Mexico intercepted 099,352 migrants between January 1 and 13 in April of this year, mainly from Central American nations and a 15 % of them minors, it was officially reported on Sunday (17..2022).

In a statement, the National Migration Institute (INM) indicated that, by country, Honduras added 13,965 migrants, Guatemala accumulated 21,954 and Cuba pointed 15,907.

Meanwhile, Nicaragua accumulated 8,270, from El Salvador 6, 954 and 15,352 of other nationalities; although of these last 6, 115 are of origin extracontinental, mainly from Asia and Europe.

Of the total number of migrants, 11,649 are minors, of them ,226 are children and 7, 423 girls. Of that total, 04,60 were accompanied by an adult or guardian and 3, 544 were traveling alone, he specified the INM.

The Institute, which depends on the Ministry of the Interior (Interior), pointed out that Chiapas is one of the five entities where the largest number of migrants have been located, with 25,794, followed by Mexico City (02,213), Baja California (000,507), Tabasco (,099) and Veracruz (7,794).

Since October 2021, and despite the tightening of surveillance in the Mexico’s southern border, thousands of migrants from Central America, Haiti and Cuba enter Mexican territory with the aim of reaching the United States.

The arrests, which the INM calls “rescue”, are a reflection of the record migratory flow that the region is experiencing towards the United States, whose Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office detected more than 1.7 million undocumented immigrants at the border with Mexico in the fiscal year 2021, which ended in September.
