Errol Spence Jr. once again proved that he is one of the most fearsome fighters on the planet. On Saturday night in his hometown of Dallas, he thrashed Cuban Yordenis Ugás to snatch his welterweight crown and set the table for what will undoubtedly be the fight of the year.
After winning by technical knockout in the middle of the round 10, Spence Jr. called up Terence Crawford, who holds the last remaining welterweight title
, that of the WBO, and more important than the belt is to clarify once and for all who is the best welterweight in the world.
“Everyone knows what I want. I want Terence Crawford!” declared Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) in the ring. “That’s the fight I want! I’m going for that damn belt.”
Crawford, who doesn’t know defeat in his race (80-0), he immediately congratulated Spence Jr. and accepted the lawsuit , warning him that the real fight is the one that will come next between them: “Congratulations on a great fight… now comes the real fight. No more words, no more street sides, come on!!!”, he wrote on Twitter.
This was Spence Jr.’s first fight in 17 months, a long period that included eye surgery. It should be remembered that in October of 2019 he miraculously survived a terrible accident while driving his Ferrari.

Ugás couldn’t handle Spence Jr.’s greatest arsenal, but there was a moment in the sixth round in which he mistreated the undefeated champion and in fact could have scored a knockdown that the referee not valid. After the right hand, Spence Jr. dropped his mouth guard.
Only after that very good assault, the Cuban was beaten. Spence landed steadily, especially with the uppercut, and Ugás’ right eye began to swell dramatically, forcing the ring doctor on top. Eventually the doctor said that the fighter should no longer continue and the TKO was ordered.
After being interviewed in the ring and congratulating Spence Jr., who came into the fight defending his WBC and IBF crowns, Yordenis Ugás was transported to a hospital to have his eye checked, ESPN reported.
CompuBox statistics indicate that Spence Jr. connected 216 on 784 goals (28 %), including192 power hits . Ugás achieved only 96 of 541 (18%).
