Comedian Gilbert Gottfried, known for his raucous voiceover in the movie “Aladdin,” passed away at 67 years after a long illness, his family reported Tuesday in a statement released on Twitter.
“We are heartbroken for having to announce the death of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father of his two young children”, reads the text published by his family.
“Although today is a sad day for everyone, keep laughing as hard as possible in honor of Gilbert,” the statement concludes.
Gottfried (New York, 1955) was widely recognized for his nasal voice and peculiar sense of humor, which captivated children and adults in performances such as Iago, the parrot from “Aladdin” (1992).
The comedian also participated in other productions for younger audiences such as “Cyberchase” (2002), the animated series in which he voiced the bird Digit.
Likewise, in the world of advertisements for the small screen, playing, among others, the duck of the insurance company ora Aflac.
During his career he was a regular at Comedy Central’s so-called roasts, in which with his pranks and jokes he caricatured the careers of other comedians and established artists through performances with scripted and improvised parts.
More recently, his program “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast”, in which he mixed interviews with colleagues from the film and television industry with comic pills, had been well received by his audience through platforms such as Apple Podcasts.
