Former President Donald Trump should be held in contempt for not responding to a summons from the New York District Attorney according to instructions, the New York attorney general’s office said Thursday in a new court filing.

New York Attorney General Letitia James also asked the judge to impose a daily fine of $10,000 Dollars until Trump complies with the subpoena.

The subpoena, issued as part of James’ civil investigation into how Trump appraises his real estate portfolio, was looking for Trump’s personal documents, including tax records and financial statements. The original deadline of March 3 was postponed until 31 of March after that Trump requested an extension.

“The judge’s order was very clear: Donald J. Trump must comply with our subpoena and deliver the relevant documents to my office,” James said in a statement.

Former President Donald Trump raised new objections to document requests on 31 March, which James’ office said are not permissible, according to NBC News.

“The This court’s order was not an initial offer for a settlement or an invitation for a new round of subpoena challenges. It was, rather, a court order issued after a full briefing and argument during which Mr. Trump could have, but he did not. , raise any of the alleged objections or assertions that you have now raised,” the attorney general’s motion reads.

Trump has asked a court of appeals from the state that vacate a separate subpoena that required him and his two oldest children to appear to testify , arguing, in part, that the subpoenas are the result of an investigation fueled by James’s political animosity. James’ office denied the claim.

Trump’s former personal attorney and mediator, Michael Cohen, testified before Congress in 2019 that the former president valued his real estate differently depending on whether you were seeking loans or tax deductions.

Cohen provided the House Oversight Committee with copies of Trump’s financial statements that it said misrepresented the values of Trump’s assets to obtain favorable loan and insurance terms.

Trump and their children have denied any wrongdoing.
