Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, still owner of Chelsea, and two Ukrainian envoys who participated in the Negotiations with Moscow developed symptoms of possible poisoning after a meeting in kyiv last month, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cites “sources familiar with the matter.”

The symptoms that appeared in the three cases were red eyes, constant and annoying tearing and peeling of the skin of the hands and face, according to the newspaper, which attributes the possible attack on “radical elements in Moscow” who were trying to boycott these negotiations.

Bellingcat can confirm that three members of the delegation attending the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia on the night of 3 to 4 March 2022 experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning with chemical weapons. Despite these symptoms, their lives are not in danger and all of them are progressing positively.

Abramovich was traveling between Lviv, Moscow and other capitals in his mediation efforts between the Russian and Ukrainian governments, and although he met with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, the latter was not affected, as confirmed by his spokesman, quoted by the newspaper.

The experts said the dosage and type of toxin used was likely insufficient to cause life- threatening damage, and most likely was intended to scare the victims as opposed to causing permanent damage. The victims said they were not aware of who might have had an interest in an attack

The sources specified that it was difficult to determine if the possible poisoning was caused by a chemical or biological agent, or if it was an electromagnetic radiation.

Billionaire Roman Abramovich participated in the organization of the ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to reach a ceasefire, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said today.

“Yes , he participated in the initial phase” of the organization of the talks, said the Press Secretary of the Russian Presidency in his daily telephone press conference, in which he stressed that now the negotiations only take place between the two delegations.

So far, the two parties have met in person in three occasions – February 28, March 3 and March 7 – on Belarusian territory, while that day 10 met in Antalya the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine, Sergey Lavrov and Dmitro Kuleba, respectively.

Since then the negotiations have taken place n Practically daily in videoconference format at the level of the two delegations and working groups.

Although Abramóvich is not part of the list of Russian oligarchs sanctioned in the United States, he was indeed sanctioned by the Government of the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) for his “close relationship for decades” with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
