Despite the fact that the national team could seal their classification this Sunday against Honduras, Gerardo Martino will not be on the bench, and in his place will direct Jorge Theiler who gave a speech that did not convince everyone, since stated that Mexico’s goal is not to get first place in the final Octagonal, but rather to qualify no matter what.

At a press conference Theiler commented that Mexico is not disputing for first place, a place that grants a place in the pot 1 of the World Cup draw, something important when it comes to avoiding certain world powers such as Brazil, Germany or France.

“Qualifiers all over the world are tough. We are not fighting for first place, we are fighting for one of the tickets to the World Cup, which is our objective”, assured Theiler.

In the same way , the interim strategist from Mexico confessed that there is great pressure ahead of the game against Honduras but that they will seek victory, understanding the needs of the national team .

“The pressure is like in any other knockout match , we are going to try to win the game. We are Mexico and we have to go look for the game, but we must bear in mind that there is a rival in front of us, “he asserted.

Finally, Theiler explained the differences with which Honduras and Mexico arrive at today’s match, where the ‘Tri’ is obliged to add the 3 points to avoid complications in the tie and be able to qualify for the World Cup, while Honduras will play without pressure and looking for a positive result against the Mexican team.

“The players know the situation they face and that we can enter the World Cup in this match. They are going to try to do things right. Mexico is prepared for things to turn out in the best way” concluded Theiler.
