Last March 16 officers from the Buffalo Police Department arrived at a building where a suspect was found with a knife in his hand. After repeatedly telling him to leave the gun on the ground, when he went out into the street the man lunged at the agents and they fired repeatedly.
Two days after the accident, authorities made public the body camera video showing the entire action that ended up injuring a man
During a press conference held by Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, he revealed the names of the two officers involved in the shooting, who are in administrative leave while investigations are carried out.
Phillip Edwards and Michael Ramos, are the officers who fired. Ramos’ body camera is the one on display. There you can see the officers on the stairs of a building to which they had gone for an emergency call and Thomas standing in the bucket with a knife in his hand.
The dialogue heard is from a police officer asking the suspect “Are you okay?” and he replies, “No, I’m not.” The conversation continues: “Do you have a knife in your pocket? Leave it”, to which he replied: “I, leave that big dog”.
The policemen leave the building and constantly Occasionally they yell at him to put the gun down: “Put down the knife, put down the knife, brother.”
The agents speak to the ambulance to help the suspect of whom they did not reveal details of his state of health, since he is in a hospital.
During the press conference offered by Joseph Gramaglia, he was asked why the security elements used electric guns to avoid this confusion, to which he responded through the 2WGRZ newscast.
“We are rapidly promoting this training and all 5 districts have stun guns and as soon as the officers are trained they will carry them. Tasers were introduced to the Buffalo Police Department in the last two weeks and your training is 10 hours, currently are 170 officers trained to use them”, shared Gramaglia.
