The good relationship between Óscar de la Hoya and Canelo Álvarez has been wearing thin over time. Hints and insults have gone from one side to another after both had a working relationship. After several years, the “Golden Boy” explains the reasons why Saúl Álvarez decided to put a barrier between the two.
“I have thought about what happened and when. Canelo said he wasn’t loyal and I think I know where that’s coming from. I remember giving an interview and do not criticize Eddy Reynoso, but tell Canelo that maybe he should use a different coach or someone new and different that could teach him new techniques, just like I changed coaches and how Ryan Garcia is doing it now,” De la Hoya said in an interview for BoxingScene.
Canelo and Óscar cut off relations a couple of years ago. The Mexican filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN which resulted in the termination of the contract . De la Hoya associates his comment about Eddy Reynoso with the annoyance of the man from Guadalajara.

“So I think that the criticism I had about Eddy Reynoso did not sit well with Canelo. So now I’m disloyal and that’s fine, I don’t have a problem with that. If Canelo comes to me and we shake hands, then everything is fine. It’s not a big deal, I have no regrets ”, sentenced the former Mexican-American boxer.
