Jürgen Grabowski, champion with Germany in the 1974 World Cup, passed away

The former German player Jürgen Grabowski, member of the winning team of the World Cup in 1972, died last night at 77 years, reported sources from the German Football Federation (DFB).

Jürgen Grabowski passed away last night at 77 years of age.

“He was an identifying figure for our club and a glory of German football as a whole”,

stated the president of Eintracht Frankfurt, Peter Fischer, through the message of condolence on the DFB website.

Eintracht was the club where Grabowski played between 1965 and 1980. With the jersey of the Frankfurt team he played 441 matches while on 17 Sometimes he wore the national team.

He was the engine of Eintracht and, although Wolfgang Overath and Günter Netzer disputed the starting position in the national team, he has one of those milestones as a result of chance and the calendar: winning the World Cup final on July 7 1974, the day he was years old.

“During his active days, Jürgen Grabowski was perhaps the most perfect player to play for Eintracht. His aura still has an effect today. Grabi, who enjoyed playing our Eintracht games so much, created an intergenerational identity for the club”.
