The Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos became the second secretary of the cabinet of Donald Trump resigning after the violent uprising of Trump supporters on the US Capitol. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chay resigned also Thursday.
In his resignation letter, DeVos blamed the outgoing president for exacerbating tensions in the violent assault to the seat of American democracy. “There is no doubt about the impact his rhetoric had on the situation, and for me it is the turning point,” the former secretary wrote. The Wall Street Journal was the first outlet to report the resignation.
DeVos had sent a letter to Congress earlier this week in which urged lawmakers to reject policies endorsed by President-elect Joe Biden and protect those of the Trump Administration that Biden has vowed to eliminate.
DeVos regretted that the last days of the Trump administration are spent “ cleaning up the mess left by violent protesters that infested the US Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s chores. ”
“ That behavior was inconceivable in our country ”, added the Secretary of Education.

The two resignations make it more unlikely that there will be a Trump impeachment process through the mechanism contemplated in the amendment 25 of the Constitution, since it would take a majority of the Cabinet and the go-ahead of Vice President Mike Pence to activate it.
