A Salinas, California police officer was fatally shot while making a traffic stop, local authorities reported at a press conference this Saturday.
The Salinas Police Department revealed that the murdered agent is Jorge David Alvarado, of 45 years old, a officer with five years of seniority in the force.
Near the 10: 45 Friday pm, Alvarado performed a traffic stop that led to a shooting that ended with the life of the officer, reported the police chief, Roberto Filice during the meeting with the press. However, did not specify more details of what happened .
“The officer stayed in the fight until the end. In the end, he paid the price, he gave his life for it,” the chief said. “But thanks to your actions, we were able to apprehend the suspect and we currently have him in custody.“
The authorities did not share information related to the suspect at a press conference.
“Our community and our police department are devastated,” said the mayor Kimbley Craig. “The death of a Salinas police officer in the line of duty has not occurred in almost 80 years”.
“Our officers they are grieving They have lost a brother. We have lost a public servant”, he added.
The city of Salinas is located 59 miles south of San Jose, California, in Monterey County.
For her part, Jeannine Pacioni, Monterey County District Attorney, reported that his office was notified about the shooting, as well as the protocol with situations of this caliber that relate to officers, and that it is investigated.
“The death of an officer in the performance of his duties has an enormous cost in a police department,” added the prosecutor.
Likewise, the California Police Department is conducting an investigation on her behalf.
