A few days until the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, some legislators in the United States expressed concern about the safety of the athletes who will participate in the great event.
Among the issues of concern in Congress are data protection and freedom of expression. China has been accused on many occasions of violating the privacy of its population.
“Several events have raised concerns about the safety of athletes that require an urgent reaction (…) Being a US citizen is not in itself a protection against harmful treatment by the Chinese government”

They did not leave out the controversy over the MY-application 2022, the official of the event. In recent days, Citizen Lab revealed its computer flaws that put the data of people who download it at risk.

However, the organizing committee defended itself by minimizing the flaws and ensuring that they were quickly resolved. But the parliamentarians warn that the participating athletes will be exposed to values contrary to the “Olympic spirit”.
Before the imminent celebration of the Winter Games, The parliamentarians’ recommendation is that those present in Beijing use VPN’s, smartphones previously tested and with antivirus protection and have spare emails.
