Singer Suylén Milanés, daughter of Pablo Milanés, dies

“Dear family and friends, I have preferred to send you this message because I know that many will continue to ask about our dear Suylén. His heart stopped beating a few hours ago ” reads the publication.

“Pablo is serene because since the diagnosis of brain death he knew the outcome and he has been suffering it heartbreakingly within the extraordinary strength he has. We are all unwell but together: the children, the aunt, Pablo and I and for his health, which is fragile, we will not go to Havana for now”, added Pérez.

The PM Records cultural institute reported that, by decision of the family, the artist’s body will not be cremated nor will a public wake be held.

According to local media, Suylén was hospitalized last Thursday at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Havana with severe brain damage.

The producer also graduated from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in Havana in Singing and Choral Direction.

He began his artistic life during the years 80, at 16 years, in groups such as the Orquesta de Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, the mythical band Montespuma.

For a few years Suylén directed the music label PM Records and in 2020 she created the group SO MOS, a project that brought together seven women and with which it sought to make visible the female presence in the Cuban music industry.

With his group he won the Cuerda Viva Festival award for best rock band last year. He also founded the Eyeife Festival.
