María Guadalupe Martínez, mother of soldier Enrique Román Martínez, who appeared beheaded in 2020, made this Thursday a call to the community to support her in the search for justice for the murder of the soldier, who had gone camping with seven of his companions when he disappeared.

“I ask everyone to support me so that my son has justice, so that he does not remain in another file because there was no evidence and nothing was found”, the woman said through tears at a press conference in Los Angeles.

Martínez, who was a member of the parachute group at the Fort Bragg military base, disappeared after midnight on 22 May 2020 during Memorial Day weekend while camping near Cape Lookout on the North Carolina coast with seven companions.

“I ask the seven so-called friends to speak, to have a little mercy”, requested the shattered mother.

The Army only managed to find part of the soldier’s remains on 29 May of that year at Shackleford Banks, near where he disappeared.

The Hispanic mother recounted the unease she has felt at this time for not being sure of what happened to her son. “I don’t even know where his body is. It’s going to be two years now and I don’t know what happened to my son”, he recounted when disclosing lurid details of the remains found of the soldier.

The woman also demanded answers from the United States Army Unidos, whom he accused of negligence and of breaching the promise made when he recruited the Hispanic to answer for his safety.

The attorney for The family, Dustin Collier, said that the case is paralyzed among the Army files, and that he hopes that the accusations against three of Martínez’s companions – soldiers Alex R Becerra, Annamarie L. Cochell and Samad A. Landrum- for giving false statements in the investigation contribute to the allocation of more resources to the investigations.

None of the three soldiers, however , faces charges for the murder of the Latino soldier, who was three months away from returning to his home in southern California.

Martínez’s mother said she is convinced that the soldiers are d somehow guilty of the death of his son, and called into question the intentions of the group by going camping on a weekend when rain was forecast.

For her part, Griselda Martínez, the soldier’s sister, summoned the families of soldiers in the country to support them in this search for justice. “It could be anyone, we need justice,” he said.

The League of United Latino American Citizens (LULAC) in California, and La Raza Unida, among other organizations in the state, joined the call to ask the government of President Joe Biden for an exhaustive investigation and more reforms to the Code of Military Justice.

The Army offers a reward of $25,04 dollars to whoever provides valid information “leading to the arrest and conviction of the ( s) person(s) responsible for the homicide” of the Latino soldier.
