Rafael Márquez, who was an emblem of the Mexican team for many years, revealed that during Juan Carlos Osorio’s stay as coach, defended its continuity despite having suffered one of the most humiliating goals in the history of Mexico (0-7 against Chile).

The Kaiser assured that the support was necessary since the road to the World Cup in Russia 2018 was still in full development.

“One in particular that of Juan Carlos Osorio after the match against Chile in the Copa América that went very badly for us and we tried, after the match, how to support him because everything was going towards him and well, we (players) were also participants”, Rafa confessed on the TUDN program Los Incondicionales.

The former Barcelona footballer also revealed that Osorio He felt very bad and very responsible for said result, but he tried to help him recover.

“Not so much like that (wanting to quit) but he did feel very damaged, very responsible for that, and I think that there the captains went out to support him because in the end those of us who had a more direct participation were the players, so in that sense when you feel confident and have the idea that things are being done well and that some bad games may not turn out well and that they can change the process, you try to convince the group to support it and try to change that synergy”, said Márquez.

In this sense, and taking into account the games that Mexico will have in the qualifiers, the Kaiser spoke about how important it must be for the national team to regain confidence after losing to Canada and the United States .

“I think that those two games that they have played were the last ones, I think that the players have a thorn in their side to try to change now let the game begin, it is my feeling, of doing things well, of regaining confidence, which was being done in situations that we have already seen and that whatever you did, you also had the confidence that this Qualifiers was going to be walking and now that has changed, but at the time the team was at a good level”, he concluded.
