Karla Breu had already convinced herself that a career in music was not for her. She was too shy and introverted to go on stage and sing in front of thousands of people the songs she wrote about the things that happened to her. She closed that door forever. Or at least that’s what she thought
she made her life in Santo Domingo like any girl her age. She enrolled in medical school and began taking classes. “I’ll be a surgeon,” she said. But someone convinced her to record one of her songs. That someone was the renowned Dominican producer Juan Solares.
“A year after entering medicine I started working with this producer,” Karla acknowledged. “I did it out of curiosity; I had written songs and I wanted to know the process of recording in a professional studio”.
Solares sent the material to a Mexican colleague, Javier López , and this was responsible for changing Karla’s story forever. He invited her to go to Mexico, where some of the new performer’s songs began to be successfully programmed.
“It all happened suddenly,” said Karla. “I didn’t see myself doing this.”
The comings and goings from Santo to Domingo to Mexico City ended about three years ago, when Karla, from 16 years, settled permanently in the Mexican capital. Since then her life has smiled at her, and she has smiled at life. Shyness has been left behind –although small reminiscences show through on her face– and in exchange she has had the fortune to share the stage with great pop artists –the genre she performs–, such as Reyli Barba and Ana Torroja.
Precisely now he is opening Camila’s Luz tour. They have already performed together dates in the United States States, and the last one will be on Saturday at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, in the very heart of Hollywood. That has Karla very excited, especially because on this tour Karla presented “Karla Breu” for the first time before large audiences, an album that has given her many surprises, especially the song “Te prometo”, which reached fourth place in popularity. in Mexico.
“I wrote it at a very difficult time,” he said. “I didn’t know how to feel better, how to get rid of the feelings that I had inside me, that were hurting me, and one day I said ‘okay, enough, I’ve already suffered a lot, it’s time to close that cycle’”.
Karla sat down at the piano and composed “one of the most honest songs I have written and with which I have felt most vulnerable”.
At the end of the tour with Camila, Karla will return to Mexico to prepare the show that she will offer in March alone at the Lunario of the National Auditorium in Mexico City. He also has to put the finishing touches on the new single with which he intends to promote his next album, which will be released in a few months.
