Texas security agent, of Latino origin, dies in accident near the border

An officer from the Texas Department of Public Safety died this Saturday after suffering an accident while conducting “tactical operations” on Friday, near the US-Mexico border.

Texas Department of Public Safety Special Agent Anthony Salas of 37 years, “was involved in a tragic accident near Eagle Pass,” the agency reported this Saturday.

Salas was part of a Texas Department of Public Safety Special Operations Group working with the Border Patrol when the incident occurred, near 19: 00 Friday hours.

According to the press release, Salas was transported to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center, and later flown to the University Hospital in San Antonio, where he died shortly before noon on Saturday accompanied by his family.

Salas belonged to the Texas Department of Public Safety since 2013 and was stationed in El Paso. He was a member of the Texas Highway Patrol before being promoted to special agent with the Texas Department of Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Before working for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Salas was part of the United States Marine Corps.
