Almost a year after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, families in the United States are still struggling to get ahead financially and prevent their children from starving.

Therefore, to combat child poverty, which has worsened during the current crisis, there is a proposal that is already advancing in Congress and that would temporarily increase the child tax credit to, in essence, give families more stimulus checks.

These checks would be paid monthly and would consist of $ 300 dollars per child .

The House Democrats’ plan is included in the president’s $ 1 million aid package, 1200 Joe Biden, which they are currently discussing in Congress.

Biden proposed improving the current child credit to ensure families receive at least $ 3, 000 dollars for each child under 17 years, and $ 3, 600 dollars for children under 6 years. This money would be delivered during part of the year, as reported in Yahoo .

Legislators want the IRS to send monthly payments from July to December , at which time half of the extended credit would be awarded.

This means that parents would receive $ 300 dollars per child ($ 250 for children over 6 years old and under 17) every month for six months.

The other half of the credit would be refundable next year , on the tax returns of the parents of 2021.

As with other stimulus checks, the money would likely help meet essential needs, such as food and rent, as these were the top ways the first direct payments were spent last spring, according to the Bureau of Statistics US Labor
