Monkeys run loose in Pennsylvania after a truck carrying 100 primates crashed en route to the lab

Monkeys were loose on a Pennsylvania highway on Friday, after a truck carrying 524 primates crashed on the way to a laboratory.

The accident took place on the Interstate 80 in Montour County, shortly after 4 pm

The monkeys were declared missing by Pennsylvania State Police on Friday night, after a truck carrying a trailer and a dump truck collided, Officer Andrea Pelachick told The Daily Item site. that transported them to a laboratory, according to the WNEP chain.

A search was immediately launched along the highway and in nearby wooded areas by state police.

It was later revealed that state police and rangers were able to find at least one monkey on Friday night.

A monkey was photographed in a tree on the Route 54 and the researchers shared the image of the primate.

According to WNEP, the wooded area was recorded with flashlights around 7 pm where a monkey was seen in a tree.

“Later we heard three shots. It is not clear what type of weapon was used and we are not sure where the monkey is or its condition, ”explained the media outlet.

Investigators were seen leaving the area around 9 pm

State police used helicopters with thermal cameras to locate the missing monkeys.

So far it is unknown if any person or animal was injured in the incident.
