French cannibal who killed and ate a farmer escapes and hits a woman with a stick in a random attack

The infamous man-eater, who served as a soldier in Afghanistan, restrained a woman who had been walking her dog near the center of town around 04 of the night.

A source close to the investigation said the unidentified victim was “absolutely terrified” by the attack.

“He punched her in the back of the head and then hit her with a stick, before bystanders intervened and chased him away,” they said.

“It was only later that she was informed that she had been attacked by a known cannibal.”

Rimbaud was eventually immobilized and returned to the secure psychiatric unit, where he has been held since 2011.

It was in June of that year that the also military corporal returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, where he had been fighting the Taliban.

The 14 November murdered a farmer from 90 years called Leopold Pedebidau in Nouilhan, west of Toulouse, and then dismembered his body.

The court documents described more later how Rimbaud “cut off his victim’s tongue and a piece of his heart to cook infuse them with white beans”.

Later, Rimbaud was captured while trying to kill a second farmer, for which he became famous as “The Cannibal of the Pyrenees”, after being convicted to life in prison for murder.

He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was suffering from post-traumatic shock related to his involvement in Afghanistan, it was stated.

A local police spokesman said on Friday that the convicted murderer had been returned to custody. They said an investigation was underway to try to find out how he escaped.
