Athletic Club de Bilbao-Real Madrid, Real Sociedad-Betis, Valencia – Cádiz and Rayo Vallecano – Mallorca are the four matches in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal tie, after the draw held this Friday at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas (Madrid).
Athletic will host Real in San Mamés Madrid, in a butler confrontation that had not occurred since 2006, when both met in the round of 16 with victory for the white club.
The Basque team reaches the quarterfinals after eliminating Atlético Mancha Real, from the Second RFEF, in the two previous rounds, and the reigning champion, Barcelona, whom they defeated after a tough match that was decided in extra time.
Real Madrid also had to resort to extra time to get rid of Elche in the round of 16, while in the round of 16 the elimination Inatoria was more comfortable against Alcoyano, from First RFEF.
Real Sociedad will face Real Betis, two of the clubs that are having the best league season, located both in European positions, and who will repeat the tie that last season faced them in the round of 16 and which opted for the Sevillian side.
Valencia, winner of eight Cup titles, will receive Cádiz at Mestalla, in a duel that will be repeated for the third time in the history of the competition after the previous two previous seasons 1966/1967 Y 2011/2012, both with victories for the Valencian team.
The last quarter-final tie is the one that will face Rayo with Mallorca at the Vallecas Stadium.
The Madrid team, which is being the revelation in the league championship, returns to play the quarterfinals twenty years later and will debut in Vallecas after getting rid of Guijuelo, Bergantiños, Mirandés and Girona in previous rounds.
Mallorca, ten years after playing the quarterfinals for the last time, eliminated this season in previous rounds against Gimnástica Segoviana, Llanera, Eibar and Español.
The quarterfinal tie, a single match, is scheduled to be held on February 1, 2 and 3.
