The California police arrested the man who, they say, killed UCLA student Brianna Kupfer inside an upscale furniture store in Los Angeles, authorities announced Wednesday.
Shawn Laval Smith, of 31 years old, was arrested on Wednesday morning by the police of Pasadena, one day after authorities offered a record $ reward ,000 Dollars for his capture, confirmed the Los Angeles Police Department in a Twitter post.
“We would like to thank the public, the media and our partners in the Pasadena Police Department for their support in apprehending the suspect,” the post said.
Kupfer was killed on 13 January in a random attack while working alone at the Croft House store on North La Brea Ave.
The young woman sent a text message to a friend to say that someone had entered the store and was “giving her a bad vibe,” the Los Angeles Police Department lieutenant said. John Radtke said at a news conference earlier this week.
Smith allegedly walked out the back door without taking anything, police said. He was seen walking calmly down the street, according to police.
Before her murder, Brianna Kupfer had texted a friend to tell her that someone came into the store and told her he was “giving off a bad vibe”.
Later, a prospective client found Kupfer dead. Police had released surveillance footage of the suspect and announced the big reward: a combination of municipal money and donations from the community.
