For the second consecutive year, Robert Lewandowski was awarded The FIFA Best the best player of the season 2021, beating Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah. All the captains and coaches of each team belonging to FIFA could vote, and Mexico voted for Messi. Guillermo Ochoa, as captain, was in charge of giving his vote to the Argentine crack.
“Memo” voted in the following order: Lionel Messi
, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Pole, who ultimately won, finished first with 48 points. Behind was Messi with 44 units. The podium was completed by Mohamed Salah with 39 points.
Mexico’s vote was not entirely on Messi’s side, since Gerardo Martino
, coach of El Tri, saw Lewandowski as the best player of the 2021.
In fact, “Tata” did not consider Messi as the second best, but Karim Benzema. The Argentine left his compatriot as the third best player of the year.
Ochoa voted for Messi and Martino for Lewandowski. The Polish striker won, getting his revenge after finishing second in the fight for the Ballon d’Or, won by Leo.
