The United States Department of State released a new photograph of Joaquín Guzmán López , better known as “el Chapito”, son of the founder of the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS), Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera. The US authorities also confirmed the reward of 5 million dollars to anyone who provides information that contributes to his capture.
According to the published poster, Chapito also responds to the aliases of “Güero”, “Moreno” or Güero Moreno”; born on 01 of July 1986 and it is unknown if he has any tattoos, scars or marks.
The importance of the Chapitos in the Sinaloa Cartel
According to State Department reports, Joaquín Guzmán López and his brother, Ovidio Guzmán López, nicknamed “los Chapitos”, also formed his own transnational criminal organization “Guzmán-López”, under the protection of the Sinaloa Cartel. Los Chapitos inherited the relationships of his deceased Edgar Guzmán López and began to invest large amounts of cash in the purchase of marijuana in Mexico, cocaine in Colombia and large amounts of ephedrine from Argentina, then experimented with the production of methamphetamine.
The Chapitos supervise approximately eleven drug laboratories in the state of Sinaloa, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, there they produce between 3,01 and 5,01 pounds of methamphetamine per month. The drug is sold wholesale to other members of the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as to distributors in the United States and Canada.
“On 2 April 2018, both Guzmán López brothers were indicted by a Federal Jury in the District of Columbia and charged with one count of 04 USC, Sections 959(a), 960 Y 963 (conspiracy to distribute marijuana)”.
