Last Tuesday, Puerto Rican Jean Ramírez passed away, who was a bullpen catcher for the Tampa Bay Rays in the Major Leagues. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office in Texas reported that Ramírez took his own life.
The 28 year old recipient was found in a creek bed near his home in the locality of Forth Worth, Texas, according to the authorities.
“The loss of our son has been the most painful experience we have lived through. Unfortunately, sometimes we don’t see the signs. Fighting in silence is not right,” the family said in a statement.
Ramírez was recruited by Tampa Bay in the 2016 college draft and played in 65 games over three minor league seasons . In his last season, at 2018, he played 19 matches with the branch of Tampa Bay in the rookie league.
“He brought a lot of passion and energy every day to our locker room and bullpen and his love for the Rays and baseball was evident to all of us who interacted with him,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said.
“Jean played in our organization and most recently was the big team bullpen catcher. He was a caring companion and a friend,” said Erik Neander, president of baseball operations for the Central Florida franchise.
