This Monday 17 in January is a national holiday in the United States, a holiday in honor of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, a tireless fighter for the civil rights of African Americans and who was assassinated in the year 1968. For this reason many offices and other entities will be closed this Monday throughout the country. We also tell you what will open.

The date is commemorated on the third Monday of January, a date close to 15 January date of birth in 1929.

What closes

– All federal offices will remain closed.

– County offices.

– Public schools will not hold classes.

– USPS post offices.

– Fedex and UPS regular mail service will not work.

– The Stock Exchange will remain closed, therefore the markets.

– Public Libraries.

– Most of the banking institutions close, but make sure directly with your bank.

– The courts will remain closed.

– The National Parks, most of them close, others leave the entrance free. Other state parks remain open.

– US commodity markets do not open for regular trading or settlement.

What opens normally

– Shops and supermarkets.

– Liquor stores.

– Public transport, usually works normally but there may be changes in schedules.

– The garbage collection service works with normal hours.

Martin Luther King, was assassinated at 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. His death became an international event and a flag for the fight for Civil Rights.

Luther King, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, fought against discrimination against African Americans. His fight against racism marked a milestone in the history of people of color in the United States.
