Man who faked his death to escape justice in 2020 appears in hospital with covid

In 2020, Nicholas Rossi, from Rhode Island, prepared everything to escape from justice and pretended to be a dead cancer victim. Surprisingly, the man was discovered this year in a hospital in Scotland, where he had to go due to complications after contracting covid-19.

The man also uses the aliases of Nicholas Alahverdian and Nicholas Alahverdian Rossi.

A statement from the Utah District Attorney details that the man, now 34 years old, was allegedly associated with a sexual assault

of 2008 that occurred in Orem Utah, as well as with another case located in Ohio. It is also pointed out for cases of fraud.

According to a lengthy obituary posted on the Ever Loved website, Rossi said he had cancer and made his death false on 19 February 2020, but actually escaped to Scotland from Rhode Island.

“He fled from the country to avoid being accused and tried to deceive the authorities by making them believe that he was dead”, asserts the aforementioned statement.

Meanwhile, David Leavitt

, a county attorney, told The Washington Post that in his 30 years “practicing the law (…) this is the first time I see something like this.”

A year after the alleged death, the state police suspected that he was actually alive, so they started looking for him; counted with DNA tests, which were essential to find him.

The prosecutor indicated that “Thanks to an intense collaboration between several police forces, we managed to find the suspect in a hospital in Scotland. We would not have been able to move forward in this case without these efforts.”
