Ukraine denounced that it was the victim of a massive cyberattack on government sites

The Ukrainian government denounced this Friday 14 in January that received a massive cyberattack on its government online platform. The attack affected the websites of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Emergency, among others.

“As a result of a cyberattack Massively, the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies are temporarily inactive”, reported the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, on his official Twitter account.

The official assured that specialists are working to regain control of the government’s computer system as soon as possible. He added that the security forces are already investigating who could be responsible for the crime.

As part of the mass hack in Ukraine hackers posted an ad on the web portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In the text, visible in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish, they stated that they managed to remove information from the system that cannot be recovered by the authorities.

“ Ukrainian! All your personal data has been uploaded to the public network. All the data on the computer is destroyed, it is impossible to restore them”, the criminals indicated.

Given the impossibility of offering the public official information through official channels, the authorities asked the public to use the official networks of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to stay informed.

From the European Union they condemned the attack and assured that it only contributes to worsening the situation in the region.

Josep Borrell, head of the European bloc’s foreign policy, indicated that although he did not want to blame Russia without having proof, everything seems to indicate that the government of that country is behind the attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure.

Russia

The attack suffered by the Ukrainian government occurs in a context of strong tensions with Russia and that seems to lead to an armed conflict. United States intelligence sources assure that the Kremlin is preparing to invade Ukraine.

This information is also has been replicated by the Ukrainian defense minister who has stated that the Russian special services are preparing to infiltrate and generate acts of violence that will serve as a trigger for the conflict.

“Military units of the aggressor country and their satellites are ordered to prepare for such provocations”, Ukraine’s Defense Minister said in a statement.

Officials from the United States and Russia have met in recent weeks to try to de-escalate the situation

, however all efforts have been unsuccessful.
