Sony plans to launch new subscription online gaming service for PlayStation users

Sony ordered the withdrawal of PlayStation Now cards in all UK retail stores. The measure, which may be extended to other countries, is part of a series of decisions carried out by the company to create a new subscription service with which to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass.

The new service, whose code name is Spartacus, will allow users to access a wide catalog of video games. The new platform is expected to represent the function of PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus, two of Sony’s most lucrative services.

Currently these services have a cost for the user of $6.99 per month in the case of PS Plus and $9.99 in the case of PSNow.

Currently these two systems, although similar, offer players different benefits. In the case of the Plus subscription, it is necessary to be able to access the multiplayer functions of most of the games available for Sony consoles.

For its part, PS Now allows users download a handful of games monthly which are usually older, including titles that were available for the first versions of the PlayStation.

According to information published by Bloomberg, the business strategy that Sony intends to follow would imply the elimination of the PlayStation Now brand and keep only the name PlayStation Plus.

According to what has been known by the new service will have a three-tier system. The first of them will include all the benefits present in the PlayStation Plus. The second will include a robust catalog of PlayStation 4 and PS5 games, while the third level will offer the possibility of enjoying classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.

The new bet from Sony occurs after Microsoft bought from 2020 Bethesda Softworks, for about $7,500 million dollars, one of the main video game developers and responsible for titles such as The Elder Scrolls, DOOM and Fallout 3. Thanks to this business movement, Xbox was able to expand its library of games, which ultimately benefited its Game Pass service, which costs between $10 and $15 per month.

It is estimated that the new Sony platform could be presented during the next spring and would have a cost about $15.
