A man in Honduras broke into the cabin of an American Airlines plane
The incident of the Tuesday afternoon was apparently captured on video, and an unidentified man was seen squirming to try to get out of the cockpit window, as a stunned ground crew ran to the scene.
“They are dragging him back inside,” said the person filming, as they drag the man away from the window.
The Honduran newspaper La Prensa said it was not clear if the man was a ticketed passenger for the flight.
American Airlines confirmed the incident and said that the flight 488 of San Pedro Sula, the second largest city in Honduras after the capital Tegucigalpa, known as one of the most dangerous cities in the world, was delayed due to this incident.
The identity of the passenger was not revealed.
“During boarding the flight 488 of American Airlines with service from San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP) to Miami (MIA), a customer entered the flight deck that was open and caused damage to the aircraft,” the airline reported in a statement.
“The crew members intervened and the individual finally was detained by the local police.
“A replacement plane is on its way to Honduras and the flight is scheduled to depart again at 9 : 16 pm local time.
“We applaud our other outstanding crew members for their professionalism in handling a difficult situation.”
The plane was scheduled to leave at 14: 35 local time. Passengers were waiting to take off on a replacement flight scheduled for 9: 30 pm local time.
