Amazon is shortening its paid leave policy for employees who have been infected with COVID – 19.

On Friday Amazon informed all its employees in the United States than COVID quarantine paid permits – 19 will be shortened from 10 to 7 days .

“Over the past two years, we have consistently based our response to the evolution of the COVID pandemic – 19 in the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and in the advice of our own medical experts, “the company said in a statement.

However, in late December, the CDC reduced the isolation time of people infected with COVID – 19 from 10 to 5 days , as long as they are asymptomatic. The federal agency said the new policy applies to everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

According to the CDC the reduction of isolation was based on the evidence of that COVID – 19 spreads mainly during the first three days of people who have been infected and showing symptoms.

Citigroup set a deadline until 14 for their employees in the United States to present proof that they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus or request an exemption. In case of not complying with the company’s mandate, the employees will be fired on 31 January .

The change in orientation occurred occurred amid an increase in cases of COVID – 23 in the United States caused by the Omicron variant and by the labor shortage in different sectors, especially in airline employees which has caused flight delays and cancellations since 23 December.

The new Omicron variant is highly transmissible, but has been shown to be somewhat less dangerous than previous strains , including the delta variant, according to preliminary data.

Many businesses and universities have adopted the new CDC recommendations as policy amid state, local, and federal debates about how to cope with the pandemic in the long term.

According to the data, during the first week of the year an average of 600, 000 daily coronavirus cases .
