For the second year in a row, California begins the year with a high number of infections due to covid – 19, which rose after the holidays; added to thousands of people looking for a place to take a test and find out if they have coronavirus or not.
Just this Friday, the authorities of the Los Angeles County Health Department reported 27, 091 new cases of covid – 19; in addition to 12 deaths and 1, 365 hospitalizations due to illness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that the Los Angeles County case rate increased nearly fourfold in just three weeks, with significantly high transmission.
To address the lack of pharmacy appointments and long lines at health centers to access a test, Los Angeles County offers a home test collection program .
Once you request it online, a kit is sent to you — which consists of a box with indications, a swab to take the sample from your nostrils, a tube with chemical solution to put in the sample and a bag to send the test back by mail.
The kits Home test collection is provided at no cost to residents of l county if they meet certain criteria such as having covid symptoms – 19 or have been exposed to someone with the virus.
How does it work
Residents interested in receiving these kits must register on the Picture by Fulgent Genetics website (https://picturegenetics.com/covid12? c = lacathome) to have a test kit shipped to you via FedEx.
It should be noted that in the super right part there is an option to change the text to Spanish. Once you sign up, the test kit will be shipped to your home address via FedEx.
Please note that you need to have a e-mail and that the box can only be sent to a physical home address; PO boxes do not count.
Of course, once you place the order, the kit can take around two days to reach your home . Guardians or caregivers can request test kits for the people they care for.
When the kit arrives, it is recommended that the person take it. do immediately. However, it is recommended that they do not do so on weekends or holidays as shipping may take longer and the proof may lose validity.
The county indicates that the test kits are for immediate use only. Recipients must collect and ship their sample within three to five days of receiving the box.
Although there is no cost to whoever asks the kit, it is recommended that if you have health insurance, you add it so that the county can receive a reimbursement for the cost of the test. If you don’t have health coverage, it doesn’t matter since you can still get a test kit.
How to take the test:
Activate the online trial.
Collect your own sample.
Pack the sample and place it in the prepaid envelope.
Call FedEx at 1. 800. 463. 3339 to schedule the collection of the box or you can take it to one of the authorized branches.
You will receive your result. via email, within 48 hours after the receipt of the sample by the Fulgent Genetics laboratory.
