They arrest a young Salvadoran who caused an accident in which a Hispanic couple who had been married for 40 years died

HOUSTON – A Hispanic has been arrested and faces charges for allegedly causing a fatal accident that claimed the life of a Hispanic couple who were heading to mass on Christmas Eve.

The fatal incident occurred at an intersection in the southwest of the city on Friday.

The victims were identified as Juan Sapón, of 60 years, and María Sapón, of 59, a couple who had been married for more than 40 years.

Juan and María died at the scene, and in the first reports it had been reported that Maria was a girl of approximately eight years due to her short stature.

One day after the incident the authorities revealed that they were the aforementioned persons.

Alessio Leonardo Benvinetto, from 20 years old and a native of El Salvador faces two charges for not having stopped to give aid to the victims.

In the Police report it was reported that Juan and María were traveling in a Toyota Camry vehicle when they were crossing an intersection on South Gessner Street and were hit by a Chevrolet Silverado truck that Benvinetto was driving. .

After the crash Benvinetto ran from the scene.

No date has been released for Benvinetto to appear in court.
