Eating habits have a great influence on your weight and health. Some of these habits may not be so good and lead to weight gain. It is never too late to replace your unhealthy eating habits with healthier ones and make them part of your lifestyle, it can free you from dieting and keep your weight under control.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) list six bad habits that cause you to gain weight:
Skipping Food does not help you lose weight, on the contrary, it can make you gain weight. The University of Louisville shares that skipping meals causes the body to slow down its metabolism (how much energy does it need to work) and makes us burn less energy (less calories).
Skipping breakfast or other meals can leave people with low energy, slow and tired, it also causes headaches or feeling weak.
Eating fast can make you win weight. Penn Medicine explains that your brain takes about 20 minutes to receive the signal that your stomach is full . Therefore, fast eaters can easily eat more food than the body needs before feeling full. Eating slower and chewing food well helps your body assimilate nutrients better and feel satisfied with less food.
Serving yourself on large plates and cleaning your plate make you eat more food. Larger plates can make a serving of food appear smaller than it is. This tricks the brain into thinking that it has eaten enough.
If you eat too fast, you can “clean your plate” instead of paying attention if your hunger is satisfied.
Stress, fatigue , nerves or pressure, are some of the reasons why you can eat without hunger. Eat only when you are really hungry rather than when you are tired, anxious or feeling an emotion other than hunger.
Real hunger comes slowly and can easy to postpone, you can likely be satisfied with many food choices and can stop eating when you feel satisfied. Emotional or mindless eating comes on quickly and makes you want specific foods . You can also respond to the availability of food. This makes overeating more likely.
Eating sitting helps a conscious eating in which you focus all your senses on the experience of eating. Mindful eating also includes eating more slowly and taking time to enjoy food.
Eating standing up can make it difficult to practice mindful eating and make you more prone to overeating.
Eat a fruit for dessert it’s a good habit. But a slice of cake or cookies are not the best for your body. Always choosing desserts loaded with sugar and refined carbohydrates not only favors your weight gain, it can also increase the risk of diseases such as diabetes.
Sugary desserts are high in calories and lead to eating in excess. In addition, sweets are difficult to leave and your palate is used to eating highly sweetened products and not appreciating the natural sweetness of fruits and vegetables, finding in them a flat flavor.
A healthy lifestyle can help you keep your weight under control and maintain long-term results.
