Two people were discovered dead inside a submerged car this Thursday morning in a flooded underpass in the town of Millbrae, in San Mateo County, near the Bahí Area a.
At 5; 45 am, the firefighters went to an emergency call for the flooding at the intersection of Hemlock Avenue and Esast Hillcrest Boulevard , in Millbrae, reported Detective Javier Acosta, of the office San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office
Emergency services found the person who made the call standing on the roof of his car, while nearby was another vehicle completely submerged in water .
The call occurred amid a series of winter storms that have caused l Heavy rains in the Bay Area during the week .
After that the firefighters rescued the first person, they tried to get to the second car, but could not because the water level was rising rapidly, putting the lives of the rescuers at risk .
The work of draining the water in the area was delayed for several hours flooded, and when rescuers were able to get close to the car they found the two dead people inside .
The identities of both people were not immediately released.
The two vehicles were located next to each other in an underpass for the train tracks.
Detective Acosta said that at the time the call was received there was heavy rain .
The authorities asked the cond uctors exercise extreme caution when flooding occurs on roads and do not attempt to cross flooded roads .
“If you see standing water and you are not sure of the depth, do not try to cross it. Not worth it. Even a few inches of rain can change the dynamics of your vehicle, ”explained Acosta.
