Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Del Rio sector in Texas discovered five unaccompanied migrant children, in the past 22 of December, said that agency in a statement.
Around 8 a.m., Border Patrol agents came across a group of 27 migrants shortly after they entered the United States without documents near Del Rio.
The group included a six-year-old girl who cared for her p r imo one year old and another five year old girl traveling alone .
The children had handwritten notes with phone numbers of relatives in the United States. A child had a copy of a birth certificate.
Later in the morning, officers encountered a group of five migrants near From the river. Within the group there were two unaccompanied siblings, ages nine and seven. The children had contact information of relatives in the United States and birth certificates.
“These five children made a very dangerous trip”, said Jason D. Owens, Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent. “They were put into the hands of criminal traffickers by the very people who are supposed to take care of them. I’m just thankful that the Border Patrol agents were there to intercede and ensure their safety before something bad could happen. ”
The five children are citizens of Honduras and will be processed in accordance with United States immigration policies.
