76-year-old man arrested for strangling a young woman 43 years ago
San Francisco police, the FBI and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported in a statement the arrest in Denver, Colorado, of Mark Stanley Personette, from 76 years , as the suspect in the murder of Marissa Rolf Harvey, who in 1978 was 15 years old when she was murdered in San Francisco, California.
The New York girl was visiting San Francisco with relatives, but did not return the day she visited Golden Gate Park. The following day his body was found near Sutro Heights Park .
The case was unsolved since then, until in October 2015, when the investigation was reopened , the authorities reached Personette thanks to “advanced methods” that they used in the investigation, without requiring further details thereof.
Bill Scott, Police Chief, indicated that “ for more than four decades , Marissa Harvey’s family members have been tireless activists for justice. We hope this breakthrough in the case begins to bring closure and healing that they have been denied for too long. ”
Investigations are now heading to search the unsolved records on cases of sexual assault and homicide of young girls, to find out if the suspect is related to some other case.
