Vehicle falls into a ravine in Bolivia, leaving 7 dead

The fall of a vehicle into a ravine on a highway in southeastern Bolivia due to the rains left at least seven dead and one injured person, according to local media.

The event occurred the day before on a route in the municipality of San Lucas, in the Chuquisaca region, where a vehicle fell, the governor of that department, Damián Condori, told the media.

Condori regretted that as a result of the event “there are seven lives that have been lost” and assured that the corresponding regional secretariats are working to “get support” to the area.

The governor indicated that areas like that where this accident occurred have “very

narrow roads” that are being affected by landslides caused by the rains.

The the Caldía de San Lucas decreed a municipal mourning for the deceased and announced on its Facebook page that it will support the transfer of the bodies to their respective communities.

The governor of Chuquisaca assured that regional officials are mobilizing the 24 hours to attend to the disasters that are occurring in the department, where some eleven municipalities declared themselves in emergency due to the rains.

Apart from those who died in the accident in Chuquisaca, the rainy season in Bolivia has left at least eight dead, more than 1, 600 affected families and 1, 050 hectares of damaged crops, according to official data.

The Mayor’s Office of La Paz reported that in the last hours it attended some 80 cases of emergencies as a consequence of rains, including fall ace of walls in private homes and sediment carry-over.

These emergencies were attended by 25 crews and 100 laborers, in addition to 100 vehicles that include excavators, tractors and high tonnage trucks, detailed the municipality in a press release.
