At the moment, Most of the confirmed Omicron cases have been recorded in Los Angeles County , some related to travel from abroad, but also others that were caused by community infections.

This Sunday, Los Angeles County Health Department reported 3, 512 new infections of coronavirus , with 742 sick receiving care in hospitals.

It is three consecutive days that the county has registered more than 3, 000 new infections. On Saturday 3, 730 cases were announced, while on Friday 3, 360, mostly due to the still predominant Delta variant.

On Friday, Orange and Riverside counties reported detecting their first cases with the Omicron variant . In Orange County, a fully vaccinated man tested positive and developed the disease after a trip to another state.

Officials estimated that Ómicron will soon become the predominant variant in positive cases of coronavirus in the United States .

Dr. Anthony Fauci, senior adviser to President Joe Biden, stated that the country must be prepared for large numbers of hospitalizations and deaths.

Fauci recognized that there will be a high number of infections among the population already vaccinated , and that a large difference will be observed between immunized residents and people who have not received a dose of the vaccine.

The experts indicated that people who completed their vaccination schedule and already received their booster dose, are well protected against the Omicron variant, so urged residents who are eligible for a booster and have not yet received it, this week is the ideal to apply it .

From the 24 November, the numbers of hospitalizations increased by 16%, especially in Southern California.

“Unfortunately we see signs of a winter increase immediately after Thanksgiving break. Daily hospitalization and case rates are steadily increasing and we anticipate that they will continue to rise as we enter winter break.
