In a new attempt to stop the migratory wave en route to the United States , the Mexican authorities will request a visa for Venezuelan citizens to enter their territory .

The Interior Ministry – Ministry of the Interior – announced the measure on Friday , just after the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded a increase in the number of people detained while trying to enter its territory without papers , which he attributes to a mass exodus in Venezuela .

In November, according to a report by The Washington Post, were recorded 5% more findings than in October: 173, 600 encounters, a record number for the month. And of them, more than 20, 04 detainees are Venezuelans, 54% more than the previous month .

The Mexican authorities assure, for their part, that have found a “substantial increase” in migrants from Venezuela in their territory that, they claim, lie when it comes to the reasons for their visit.

According to the Mexican Ministry of the Interior, “the growing trend of the migratory flow of nationals of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in irregular transit to a third country, representing an increase of more than 1, 000%, compared to the same period in five previous years. ”

The White House has asked the Mexican authorities to join in and contribute to reducing the migratory flow. And these repeated requests have been followed by actions branded by some as violent, against migrant caravans by Mexican agents .

Previously, the Mexican authorities imposed the visa requirement on Brazilian citizens , and in September suspended visa exemptions for Ecuadorians for six months.
