Los Angeles County health authorities reported this Friday 3, 360 new cases of coronavirus, the most in a day since August , accentuating fears of a new wave at the end of the year holiday season.

In total there were 3, 360 new cases in the last day, in addition to 27 deaths and 772 ongoing hospitalizations. Since the end of August no more than 3 were recorded, 000 cases.

It is believed that this new wave of infections is due to the presence of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in combination with the semi-normalization of public activities and meetings end of the year. In this sense, the Los Angeles area expects millions of visitors starting the following week, which is an additional challenge.

The increase in COVID cases – 19 in Southern California parallels what happens nationwide. For example, the state of New York reported its highest number of cases in a day since the first months of the pandemic on Friday.

In the Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous, a new mask-wearing mandate in indoor public spaces went into effect this week.

In addition , so that the public can have access to massive events such as sports or concerts, proof of vaccination must now be presented or a negative test obtained in the last 24 hours (antigens) or 48 hours (PCR) . Previously negative tests were valid with 72 hours in advance.

The use of the mask is still an order in these places, except when in the act of eating or drinking. Unfortunately there are many people who do not put it into practice.

News in development.
