80 percent of new Miami cases are of the Omicron variant

The United States health authorities warn that the situation with the new Omicron variant may be even worse than it had been until now. Basically because, experts point out, this new strain is much more contagious, which is why we are seeing a greater number of infected in a short time.

This has forced public health officials at the federal and local levels to urge the population to adopt preventive measures again, such as the use of masks , and the administration of the vaccine. According to WPLG , the new Omicron variant would have infected more than 80 percent of patients who recently tested positive for coronavirus.

It has also been confirmed that evidence of this new strain has been found in water South Florida residuals. “It is unprecedented. We saw our first case of Omicron in a sample obtained on December 2 , ”Andrews said of the rapidity with which the new variant is propagating.

This situation has caused hospitals in South Florida to have to implement urgency due to the increase in cases with this new variant. At Jackson Hospital, one of the largest in the country , admission will be limited to only people who have an appointment, an emergency or who have authorization to visit a patient.

“Despite all our efforts, the pandemic is not over , ”said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava during a press conference to address this situation.
