On Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sent more than 36 million payments to families with children of 17 years or less that meet the requirements of the last payment of the Child Tax Credit.

Since July, the agency has sent 200 million payments for a total of $ 93, 000 millions of dollars.

Families who did not file a tax return in 2019 or 2020, or they did not sign up for the IRS online portal They will still be able to claim the tax credit by filing a 2021 tax return next year.

Advances of this year represent a part of the credit that corresponds to taxpayers, the rest must be claimed in the tax returns of 2021 .

The IRS advises families who have received advances to check how much money they have received and compare it to the amount they can claim.

The tax agency will send the beneficiaries of the payments the letter 6419 in January 2022 in which the amount will be detailed.

These documents are important that you keep them and be aware of your mail since they should be part of your file at the time of filing your tax return next year .
