Car manufacturers are adding electric vehicles to their model lines. This is what is coming.

Many automakers have detailed plans to electrify a large part of their fleets over the next decade. And some have announced targets for fully electrified model lines within five years.

Consumers may not even have to wait that long. By the end of 2024, a record number of almost 100 fully battery electric vehicle (BEV) models, if all goes according to plan.

“These cheaper models have the potential to influence to much of the car buying public towards the purchase of an electric vehicle, because of its efficiency, performance and lower costs of ownership, ”says Gabe Shenhar, associate director of Consumer Reports Auto Testing Center.

American Honda Motor Co.

New BEVs on the horizon? Yes.

The company’s objective is that all its sales are of electrified vehicles that produce zero emissions for 2040. The projected increase towards this target is 40% of sales for 2028 and 80% of sales for 2035.

American Honda, which sells popular cars, SUVs and pickups from the Honda and Acura brands to American consumers, has dabbled in long time in electrified cars.

They range from the Civic Hybrid, CRZ and Insight to newer models such as the Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid and Clarity Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and

Honda signed a memorandum of understanding with General Motors at the end of 2020 that would allow Honda to use GM’s impending Ultium Batteries, a proprietary technology GM says will allow long trips in electric vehicles, among other benefits.

BMW North America

The automaker has shown prototypes of electric vehicles, including the i4, IX, and Vision and recently announced that it plans to introduce electric versions of the Series 5 and Series 7 of the sedan, and X1’s of the SUV.

Ford Motor Company

General Motors

Genesis has presented its first electric vehicle, the GV 60, based on a shared platform with Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Details will be released as the production date approaches. The company committed to making all its new vehicles fully electric starting at 2025, with fuel cell and with battery. The goal is to become a vehicle brand 100% emission free for the 2030 and carbon neutral for the 2035.

Jaguar Land Rover Limited

New BEVs on the horizon? Yes, but nothing concrete more than the I-Pace, which is already in production.
