Detentions at the border increased to 173, 600 immigrants last month, both from single adults, families and unaccompanied children.

Those are the unofficial figures from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that were provided to The Washington Post.

“CBP carried out more than 173, 600 arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border in November, an increase of more than 5 percent with with respect to the previous month ”, indicates the report. “(This is) the largest influx of that month in years.”

It is added that the increase is due, to a large extent, to more immigrants from Venezuela, who broke a record set in October, but there are also people arriving from Cuba, Central America and Mexico.

“The number of detained Venezuelan migrants increased to more than 20, 000, an increase of 54 percent compared to the previous month ”, it was indicated.

Although it means an increase, arrests are well below the 213. 000 registered in July ..

“Approximately half of those arrested were expelled to their countries of origin or to Mexico by virtue of an order of public health on the pandemic that President Biden maintains of the Trump administration “, indicates the report in reference to the Title 42.

The Post adds that almost all unaccompanied minors and most family members who had encounters with CBP agents were able to enter the US, but it is unclear how many were released.

Most adults alone, 114, 114, were expelled under the Title 42.

If the same flow of immigrants continues, the Administration of President Joe Biden could have figures similar to the fiscal year 2021 –which ended in September– , when 1.7 million people were detained at the border.

The Post report highlights that although November arrests were lower in comparison with summer, the figure is more than double the average in a similar period in other years.
