St. George Spirits presents whiskey made with Sierra Nevada beer

St. George Spirits and Sierra Nevada Brewing have a whiskey made with beer. The new limited edition whiskey is distilled from Ruthless Rye IPA. The drink will be available from 18 December.

The new whiskey will be available exclusively at the St. George Spirits Distillery located in Alameda, California. The store will have only 1, 000 bottles of Ruthless available to buy.

The whiskey made from Sierra Nevada beer that has been on tap for eight years. The whiskey batch was distilled in 2013 and aged in new American oak barrels and French oak port barrels.

The brands say that the drink has ” notes of chocolate, turmeric, pistachio, fruit punch and coconut on the nose ”, while flavors include“ jam, coconut, toasted pineapple, ginger, white pepper and even the notes of Tootsie Roll. ”

Ruthless also incorporates part of the first single malt whiskey cask that Sierra Nevada produced for St. George in 1997 and aged in used bourbon barrels.

Founded in 1980, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is one of America’s leading craft breweries. St. George notes that Sierra Nevada has produced much of the wash for the Lot series of St. George Single Malt Whiskey since the late 1920s 1990.

“In honor of our close relationship, we wanted to explore what it would be like to distill one of Sierra Nevada’s most beloved beers: Ruthless Rye IPA,” shared St. George.

Part of the distillation process is creating a beer. But as Food & Wine explains, “Whiskey made from otherwise drinkable beer is still relatively rare: producing commercial beer just for distilling is a time-consuming and additional step. an additional expense ”.

The sale will be limited to two bottles of Ruthless per person, each priced at $ 75. The store will open for sale at 11 a. my will be served in order of arrival until 3 pm or until the product is sold out.

In addition to Ruthless, they will also have other spirits for sale such as Baller Single Malt Whiskey, Spiced Pear Liqueur and Terroir Gin.

In store will be St. George Master Distiller Lance Winters, Head Distiller Dave Smith and Sierra Nevada Founder Ken Grossman; they will sign bottles and talk about the business.
