The mandate requires all people in California to wear masks, regardless of their vaccination status , when they remain in public spaces indoors. The ordinance goes into effect this Wednesday and will be in effect until 15 of January of 2022.

To attend events with more than 1, 000 people, those who have not been vaccinated must show proof of coronavirus antigen with a negative result in tests performed one day before the show, or a negative PCR test within two days before the event. The previous rule required a control within 72 hours prior to the event.

State health officials recommended that tourists traveling or residents returning to California after a trip to take a health test COVID – 19 within 3-5 days .

Some counties, such as Los Angeles, have their own mandates use of masks indoors, but in other localities of the state these types of mandates were lifted, as happened in some counties of the Bay Area.

The City of will allow its fully vaccinated residents not to wear masks in gyms and workplaces , in accordance with the city’s Public Health department.

UPDATE: @CAPublicHealth has further refined its indoor masking requirements since Monday. This means that stable cohorts of 100% fully vaccinated people in settings like workspaces and gyms will continue to be allowed to remove masks. (1/3)

In San Francisco, about 86% of eligible residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine , according to the city’s health authorities.

State officials are concerned that a scenario similar to last year’s winter could occur, when California averaged more than 100 cases for each 100, 000 inhabitants during a wave of infections that almost left 19, 000 people who died in a period of 8 weeks.

Last winter’s wave of infections occurred when vaccines were not yet available. Currently, more than 70% of California residents of eligible age have been fully vaccinated , and the state averages just over 14 cases per day for each 86, 000 persons.
