Heavy rains, snowfall and strong wind will have the first winter storm in Southern California

A strong storm is expected to arrive this Monday in southern California that will bring heavy rains, snowfall in high areas and frost, according to the forecasts of the National Meteorological Service (NWS) .

Authorities issued warnings for possible landslides and floods, so asked residents to be alert to possible evacuations .

Arrival of the storm is expected for the afternoon or night of this Monday with heavy rainfall, so that areas near mountain slopes are at risk of landslides in sites affected by forest fires.

Prior to the arrival of the storm, there will be a sharp drop in temperature in the first hours of this Monday, close to 40 gr near Ramona, Van Nuys, Chino and Fullerton.

Moderate to heavy rains will occur in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties starting at 7 pm this Monday.

One to three inches of water is expected in the valleys and on the coasts, while in areas of the foothills of mountains could receive between three to six inches of rain .

Flood Hazard

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department issued evacuation warnings for North Bench of Yucaipa, Mountain Home Village, Angelus Oaks, Oak Glen, Forest Falls and Lytle Creek .

Also Santa Barbara County authorities asked to be alert to nearby residents to the areas affected by the Alisal fire due to the risk of debris flows .

By the amount of rain expected possible flooding along low streets, highways and on roads mountain.

As of this Monday afternoon, the fall of enter to 36 inches of snow could occur at elevations above 7, 000 feet , plus light snowfall for Tuesday afternoon starting at 4 ,500 feet.

In areas where the rains will be more intense there are possibilities of flooding on urban roads.
