In an interview for Automotive News quoted in Roadshow , Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, commented on the possibility of the Ford Maverick becoming the first copy of a sub-brand made up of similar models . In the words of the executive, this small truck, which already competes with others on the market such as the Hyundai Santa Cruz, has all the potential to become an icon, as have been the Bronco SUV and the Mustang, the famous Ford pony car : “Could we build other affordable vehicles like the Maverick family? Yes, of course we could. ” Despite promising comments from Farley, there is no confirmation from the company so far.
With its launch earlier this year, the Ford Maverick has conquered a segment that was considered buried until now. It is a compact truck that takes a brand from Ford’s past to give it a new platform, new technology and unique storage options , thus creating an ideal vehicle for any kind of project that, at the same time, fits both everyday tasks and weekend adventures. With it, other clean transport options are also opened thanks to a hybrid version that was also revealed a few months ago and whose orders have just closed, after running out existence.
Created from scratch, the Maverick also represents one of the new mobility options that Ford introduced this year and among which counts the F – 150 Lightning, the fully electric version of the truck of this brand, the best-selling in the country in recent 40 years. Despite not being a full-size truck like the latter, the Ford Maverick has all the versatility of this type of vehicle, thanks to its open bed and comfortable cabin, which are combined with good power and a very good fuel economy, two of its most celebrated features.
For now, the hybrid version has been the most demanded and orders for it are expected to restart for the summer of next year. However, they will correspond to the model year 2023.
