Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey reported that the company is exploring the possibility of allowing its users to receive tips or digital payments from their followers.
Dorsey said the feature would help the social media platform earn more money and share from its base of 192 million daily users.
“The first thing we want to focus on is that financial incentive for people who contribute to Twitter,” he said at the Goldman Sachs virtual Internet and technology conference. .
The introduction of tips for users and new features such as content subscriptions would help the company diversify its revenue , which it currently makes primarily from the sale of advertising on Twitter.
The company said Tuesday during an earnings call with analysts who did not expect subscriptions to be meaningful active for the company’s revenue until next year.
Last month, Twitter bought the newsletter startup Revue as it hopes to appeal to users who want to create long-form content.
